Our Scientific rationale derive from a continue Academic collaboration with University of Turin and consist in the development of molecular biology assay in three fields of interest:

Rare disease

Pharmacogenetics

Stem cell and differentiation markers

Rare diseases are diseases which affect a small number of people compared to the general population and specific issues are raised in relation to their rarity.

In Europe, a disease is considered to be rare when it affects 1 person per 2000.

 

The field of rare diseases suffers from a deficit of medical and scientific knowledge. Hundreds of rare diseases can now be diagnosed through a biological sample test.

 

Our mission in this field consist in the increment of possible diagnosis.

Azathioprine is an immunosuppressant that belongs to the drug class of thiopurines.

Azathioprine is a prodrug that must first be activated to form thioguanine nucleotides (TGNs), the major active metabolites.

Thiopurine S-methyltransferase (TPMT)inactivates azathioprine, leaving less parent drug available to form TGNs.

The FDA recommends TPMT genotyping or phenotyping before starting treatment with azathioprine.

This allows patients who are at increased risk for toxicity to be identified and for the starting dose of azathioprine to be reduced, or for an alternative therapy to be used.

 

Our mission in this field consist in the development of genetic testing for several TPMT variant alleles, which most commonly including TPMT*2, *3A, and *3C.

This genotype includes the >90% of inactivating alleles.

Sex-determining region Y-box2 (SOX-2), Nanog homebox (NANOG), and octamer-binding protein (OCT-4) are three transcription factors that play a key role in maintaining pluripotency and self-renewal of stem cells.

 

Recently a great interest has arisen in research in the field of advances therapies, which may have important applications in tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, cell therapy and gene therapy owing to their great therapeutic potential which may have important applications-
